13th INTERNATIONAL METHAN-GAS HYDRATE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP
This workshop was created so hydrate researchers and stakeholders could freely exchange information and identify research prioritiesin an effort to promote collaboration. The emphases of this workshop include:
1) Perspective Gas Hydrate Deposits: resource estimations, production conditions, problems and monitoring;
2) Advance of the National Programs for GHRD;
3) Production tests;
4) Advance methods for natural gas hydrate study;
5) Scientific Base for Bussiness Plans for Gas Hydrate Deposits exploitation: CCUS, CH4 & H2 production.
The workshop will include plenary lectures, oral presentations, posters, and breakout sessions.
The 1st International Workshop on Methane Hydrate R&D was held in March 2001 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Subsequent workshops have been, on average, every 1.5 years in different countries, including the U.S., Chile, Canada, U.K., Norway, Scotland, New Zealand, Japan, India and China.
The past ten workshops have been co-organized by Professors Bjørn Kvamme (Strategic Carbon), Tsutomu Uchida (Hokkaido University), Stephen Masutani (University of Hawaii), Richard Coffin (TAMU-CC) and Dr. Norio Tenma, (AIST).
With this strong international focus topics addressed include new energy, climate change, and innovative ecological decisions. This research is of special interest to Bulgaria because of the deposits of frozen methane in the Black Sea that have potential to increase the world’s energy supply, contribute to safe CCUS and produce clean CH4 and H2.

The 13-th MGH-R&D Workshop will be hosted in Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy (NVNA) in Varna.
IMHRD 13: From science to business plans
It is an important goal for the conference to be a forum for discussions between hydrate researchers and stakeholders with the goal to define and develop new future-oriented research projects and larger research programs. This particular workshop has a desire to put a strong focus on topics like use of unconventional energy sources (hydrate), climate change, and innovative ecological decisions. This research is of special interest to Bulgaria because of the deposits of frozen methane in the Black Sea that have potential to increase the world’s energy supply, contribute to safe CCUS and produce clean CH4 and H2.
